Administration of Medication in School
Where clinically possible, medication should be taken outside school hours. For example, medication prescribed three times a day can often be taken before school, after school and at bedtime, in accordance with the instructions provided by the prescriber or pharmacist.
Where prescribed medication is required during the school day, for example where it is prescribed four times a day or at a specific time, the school can make appropriate arrangements to administer it.
Parents and carers must complete a Request to Administer Medication in School form and provide the medication in its original container, as dispensed by the pharmacy, with the child’s name, dosage and administration instructions clearly shown on the label. The completed form and medication should be handed directly to your child’s class teacher or the school office and must not be sent into school with a child.
Please note that children who require inhalers or other medication for an ongoing medical condition require an Individual Healthcare Plan. Please contact the school office for the appropriate forms and guidance.
